Antenatal & Postnatal Check-ups

It is essential to have regular check-ups with your gynaecologist during and after pregnancy.

During pregnancy

You will have check-ups called antenatal check-ups. Antenatal visits are designed to keep you and your baby healthy during pregnancy.

Even if your pregnancy is going smoothly and you’re feeling healthy, it’s crucial for you to attend all your appointments to identify any potential risks, so they can be prevented or reduced.

Dr Magopa has an open door policy- she makes you feel comfortable enough to ask any questions you may have about your pregnancy. For example, you can ask her advice on physical pregnancy symptoms and the birth itself. You may also want to ask questions about caring for your baby after birth.

Dr Magopa will also help support you with your lifestyle, including mental health or dietary advice.

We allow you to bring your partner along to antenatal visits to support you during this process.

We offer advanced 4D Ultrasounds which allow you to add live streaming video of the images and show the motion of the fetal heart wall or valves, or blood flow in various vessels.

After pregnancy

Six weeks after you give birth, you'll need another OB/GYN exam called a postnatal check-up. While giving birth may be a normal and natural process, some women experience a few health aftershocks, and it's important that they are examined and treated promptly.

The consequences of skipping your postnatal appointment can be serious: it can lead to incomplete healing, an unwanted pregnancy, an overlooked infection, undiagnosed postnatal depression and other health issues. Taking the time to keep this appointment is vital and can pay off in many ways, both physically and emotionally.

A postnatal check-up includes:

  • Checking your general health
  • Checking your incision (If you had an episiotomy or tear during vaginal delivery)
  • Examining your uterus, ovaries, and cervix
  • Examining your breasts for any abnormalities
